Helpful Storage FAQ for New Renters
1. How do I determine what size unit I need?
The best way to estimate space is to stack your items as if they were in a truck. A 5x10 unit is similar to a large walk-in closet, ideal for small furniture and boxes. A 10x15 unit can hold the contents of two full bedrooms. For larger needs, such as storing a vehicle or a full house, our 10x20 and 10x30 options provide ample square footage.
2. What items are prohibited from being stored?
For the safety of all our tenants, we do not allow the storage of flammable materials, explosives, perishable food items, or illegal substances. If you are storing gas-powered equipment like lawnmowers or motorcycles, we ask that you drain the fuel or use a fuel stabilizer before move-in.
3. Is the facility easy to navigate with a large trailer or a 26-foot moving truck?
Absolutely. Unlike cramped facilities in more urban areas, our Route 5 location was designed with "turn-radius" in mind. Our aisles are wide enough to accommodate large U-Hauls, professional moving vans, and boat trailers. You won't have to worry about difficult multi-point turns just to get to your unit door.
4. Do I need to bring my own lock?
Yes, we recommend using a high-quality disc lock for maximum security. Disc locks are specifically designed for self-storage units and are much more difficult to tamper with than standard padlocks.
5. I’m a student at a nearby Roberts Wesleyan University; do you offer short-term summer storage?
Yes! We frequently help students from nearby institutions who need a place for their dorm furniture over the summer break. Because we offer flexible month-to-month rentals, you aren't locked into a long-term contract. You can move in May and be out by August without any hassle.
6. Can I store my winter vehicle or summer boat here year-round?
We are a favorite spot for Genesee County residents to "swap" their toys. Many clients store their boats here during the winter and then swap that space for their snowmobiles or plow equipment during the summer. Our vehicle storage options are perfect for keeping your driveway clear while ensuring your expensive equipment is ready for the next season.
